Key Cost Drivers

MODELING COSTS

Projects requiring custom design services incur additional CAD development fees. This covers the design labor, technical preparation, and professional software tooling required to convert your concept into a production-ready 3D file.

BATCH SIZE/SETUP

Every production run incurs fixed setup overhead, machine calibration, and file preparation costs. Low-volume or single-item orders distribute these fixed expenses across fewer units, resulting in a higher cost per part compared to larger bulk runs.

SUPPORT STRUCTURES

Certain geometries require temporary support structures during production, such as parts with open spans, steep overhangs, or oversized components oriented vertically. These temporary structures increase total raw material usage, print runtime, and manual post-processing labor.

Model size/volume

Physical volume scales exponentially with part dimensions. A 10 mm cube represents 1,000 mm³ of material, whereas scaling to 20 mm yields 8,000 mm³, requiring eight times the raw filament and machine operating time.

Material Choice

Material pricing varies by application. While PLA is the lowest cost option, specific functional demands (such as temperature resistance or durability) may require engineering-grade polymers, costing more.

Model strength

Parts engineered for higher load capacity or structural durability require thicker outer walls and denser internal structures. This extra material and extended production time directly affect the final unit price.

HARDWARE & PART INTEGRATION

Projects requiring post-print operations—such as installing heat-set threaded inserts, adhesive bonding, or multi-part assembly—incur additional manual labor and hardware costs. These integrated secondary steps are quoted based on the complexity and hardware specified.

CAD DESIGN COMPLEXITY

The cost of custom 3D modeling depends on the number and intricacy of individual features requiring manual drafting. Complex designs with multiple geometric elements demand dedicated engineering hours to ensure proper structural integrity and fit.
